
The Gambella National Regional State consists of two zones and eight woredas.
Capital
The regional capital is Gambella.
Location
The region is located in the western part of Ethiopia, bordering Sudan to the west and north, bordering the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Regional State to the south and east, and the Oromia National Regional State to the north and east.
Skin width
Excluding the recently joined woreda, the area covers an area of 25,274 km.
Demography
According to the 1987 census, the population was 182,862, of which 92,090 were males and 88,960 were females. The population of 153,438 / 844.9%/ lives in rural areas of the region. The main ethnic groups in the region are Nuer, Anuak, Mezenger, Apana and Komo. In addition, Oromo, Amhara, Kembata, Kfu, Tigray, and other ethnic groups live in the region. Of the total population, 46 percent are Nuer, 27 percent Anuak, 8 percent Amhara, 6 percent Oromo, 5.8 percent Mejenger, 4.1 percent Kefa, 2 percent Moka, 1.6 percent Tigre and 5.5 percent Southern. Amharic is the working language of the region. The people are known for their tolerance and support, and it is a region where people of different faiths live. It has 44 percent Protestants, 24.1 percent Orthodox, 10.3 percent traditional religions, 5.1 percent Islam, 3.2 percent Catholics, and 12.7 percent other religions.

Major economic activities
Most of the people in the region are pastoralists. In some parts of the region, sesame and other oil crops, mangoes, bananas, etc.
Topography and climate
The region is mostly flat, with a humid, warm climate. The annual climate for 17 years is 615.9 mm, with an average of 21.12oc low and 35.9oc high.
Rivers and lakes
The Barrow, the only transit river in Ethiopia, is also located in the region. The river connects the region with Sudan.
Tourism and Heritage
Gambella National Park is a tourist attraction in the region. It also includes wildlife, such as elephants, buffalo, monkeys, and parrots.
Investment
Nine private investors are engaged in agriculture, construction and service sectors with a capital of 28.4 million birr. These investment projects have created jobs for more than 543 residents of the region. Gambella has potential for cotton and oilseeds investors. There is ample opportunity for investment in fish production, gold mining, oil exploration, mining and construction.
